Hello Elisabeth,
There are many similarities to a PRE and a PSL as the origin is the same, so I would rather point out the subtle and general differences. A PRE most often has a very sweet character, the PSL is more sharp but still very friendly. Both are 'one man' horses, they are best ridden and handled by only one person. It is easier to gain the heart of a PRE as he has a sweet and more open personality. The PSL on the other hand is a serious horse (many dressage riders connect very well with this personality), generally it takes longer to win the heart of a PSL, but when you won it you have it. Both races are highly intelligent and demands a rider that is more intelligent! The difference in teperament depends on the breeding purpose, the PSL is generally bred for bullfighting and the horses not sharp enough will end up as dressage horses. The PRE has originally been bred with purpose for bullfighting but has a longer tradition bred as a show and also dressage horses.
The conformation of a PRE is normally better, whilst the PSL is usually a stronger horse. The strenght reflects mostly in the movements, PSL has a better 'engine'. There is so much to say, I hope this answer has been helpful, best wishes!
